Kenya’s Luxury Safari Adventure

This short but intensive safari through Kenya makes its intentions clear from the beginning: the first night of this itinerary is spent overlooking Nairobi National Park. Your accommodation sits just outside the park and promises an afternoon spent on the lookout for lions, rhinos and giraffe, often seen with the incongruous sight of Nairobi’s skyscrapers behind them.

The scenery changes somewhat for the rest of the tour. Flying to the Chyulu Hills National Park gives you a renowned big game destination with a Mount Kilimanjaro backdrop while a stay in the Masai Mara National Reserve gives you the chance to photograph animals on rolling savannahs with – depending on the time of year – a background of thousands of migrating wildebeest and zebra.

A great tour for couples and honeymooners as well as nature lovers and wildlife photographers, this safari is one that offers a great range of activities and experiences. Besides game drives and guided nature walks, you can choose from activities such as spot-lit night drives, village visits and optional hot-air balloon safaris, not to mention mountain biking, horse riding and the chance to sleep out under the stars.

Detailed breakdown

Day 1: A safari start | 1 Night

Up arrow

The adventure begins at Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport where you are met and transferred the short distance to Nairobi National Park. Your accommodation for a night in the capital has views not of crowded city streets but thorny acacia trees browsed by giraffe. Complete with a swimming pool and Wi-Fi connectivity, The Emakoko is an owner-run lodge on the border of the park and offers a genuine taste of safari life. Tucked into the sheltering embrace of giant fig trees, your suite looks out over a river and its hippo-grazed lawns and across into the Nairobi National Park, home to lions, rhino and zebra. Dinner is served fireside to the sounds of the African bush drifting across the river – the perfect start to your Kenyan safari.

Days 2-4: Views of Kilimanjaro | 3 Nights

Kenya

It is an hour’s transfer to Nairobi’s Wilson Airport for a scheduled flight for the Chyulu Hills National Park, lying between the more famous – and more visited – Amboseli and Tsavo National Parks. Once a range of Rift Valley volcanoes, the green and fertile Chyulu Hills protect an area of unique natural habitat that is home to a wide range of animals. Elephant, buffalo and black rhino are among the heavyweight species along with many types of antelope and big cats such as lion, leopard and cheetah. Maasai community-owned Ol Donyo Lodge offers you exclusive access to this wildlife wonderland and you can expect a range of activities by which to experience it. Besides game drives, the lodge offers guided walks, mountain biking, horse-back adventures and night drives. Back at camp, your private suite has Mount Kilimanjaro views plus its own pool and your bed converts into a ‘star bed’ for an unforgettable night outdoors.

Days 5-7: A private Masai Mara safari | 3 Nights

Up arrow

Masai Mara, Kenya

A morning flight from Chyulu Hills takes you swiftly from one ecosystem to another. The rolling grasslands of the Masai Mara stretch out in front of you as you arrive at Mara Plains Camp, set in a private conservancy adjoining the reserve. Accommodating a maximum of 14 guests, Mara Plains is a small and intimate tented camp with elegant suites complete with private bathroom. Much care is taken to ensure an unforgettable experience: the camp is located in an area with very few other vehicles, an area which reputably has the highest concentration big cats in Africa. The lodge even provides a camera with lenses plus binoculars in each room. You enjoy highly rewarding morning, afternoon and evening drives in the conservancy and Masai Mara Reserve with expert local guides as well as guided walks and the chance to book an optional hot-air balloon safari.
