This 21-day overland safari will take you from the spectacular Victoria Falls, to many of East Africa’s most memorable sites, ending in Nairobi – the capital of Kenya.

Travel through Zambia and spend two days camping beside the beautiful Luangwa River before you enter Malawi and discover the beauty and tranquillity of Lake Malawi. Head to the coast of Tanzania where you’ll board a ferry to Zanzibar where you’ll spend three unforgettable days.

Make your way to the mighty Serengeti and search for the Big 5 before you descend into the magnificent Ngrongoro Crater to view its abundant wildlife. Visit the city of Arusha before travelling into Kenya and ending your adventure in Nairobi.

Day 1: Travel to Zambia’s capital | 20 Nights

Meet your tour company in the morning and have the chance to explore a bit of the mighty Victoria Falls. The many water sports and relaxing activities on offer will quickly speed away the morning before you begin your journey to Lusaka, the bustling capital of Zambia.

Day 2: Take in the Zambian landscape

Sit back and relax as you take a long drive across this lush country landscape, crossing many rivers and finally reaching Chipata where you’ll spend the night.

Days 3-4: Camp beside the Luangwa River

Up arrow

Depart from Chipata early and head to the border of the South Luangwa National Park where you will spend the next two nights on the banks of the Luangwa River. You’ll spend the afternoon relaxing at the camp where you may even spot the resident hippo in the river.

Rise early on the following morning for a guided nature walk to explore these beautiful surrounds. Later, you will have the chance to visit the community-run tribal textile project and stroll through a characteristic local village. Enjoy an afternoon game drive before taking in a striking Zambian sunset.

Day 5: See Malawi’s only protected areas

Leave Zambia behind as you cross the border into Malawi and travel across its highlands to the capital of Lilongwe. Visit the Lilongwe Wildlife Centre – Malawi’s only sanctuary for rescued, orphaned and injured wildlife. Set in 180 hectares of beautiful woodland, the sanctuary also offers spectacular views of this protected wilderness, the only protected area in Lilongwe.

Days 6-7: Lounge on the shores of Lake Malawi

Enjoy a city tour this morning to see the distinct difference between the old town and the new administrative capital. After the tour you will enjoy a scenic drive as you make your way to the magnificent Lake Malawi where you’ll be spending the next two days at leisure.

Go on a guided village walk, meet some of the friendly locals and learn about their daily lives. Explore the lake up close with a range of water activities, or go on a horse-back ride to experience these beautiful surroundings.

Day 8: See the Manchawe Falls

Up arrow

Travel further north and spend one more evening on the shore of Lake Malawi at Chitimba Beach. Here you have the option of taking a short hike to the Manchawe Falls, another of Malawi’s spectacular sites.

Day 9: Enjoy dinner in a Masai Hut

Up arrow

Say goodbye to the beautiful lake as you cross the border into Tanzania. Ascend the Great Rift Valley via some spectacular mountain passes and gaze over the vast tea plantations in the highlands before arriving at your camp in Iringa. Enjoy an evening in a local Masai Hut with a traditional Tanzanian dinner.

Day 10: Spot local wildlife in Mikumi National Park

Depart from Iringa and travel north to the Mikumi National Park. The park is home to lion, zebra, wildebeest, impala, buffalo and elephant, which you can spot on an optional afternoon game drive.

Day 11: Reach the Tanzania coast

Leave the cool highlands behind as you head toward the more tropical coastline and the city of Dar es Salaam, the gateway to Zanzibar. Spend the night here in preparation for your excursion to the Spice Island.

Days 12-14: Explore spicy Zanzibar

Up arrow

Board a local ferry to Zanzibar. Spend today exploring this historic town with its Medina-like shops and the palaces of Sultans before transferring to the northern part of the island the next morning. While away the hours on these idyllic beaches and swim in the warm Indian Ocean.

You’ll also have the opportunity to swim with dolphins, or go scuba diving and snorkelling to explore the clear, shallow waters.

Day 15: Sleep in the shadow of the Usambara Mountains

Bid farewell to the island as you ferry back to Dar es Salaam. Travel to Lushoto, an important district centre in the Usambara Mountains. Spend the afternoon hiking around these beautiful surroundings or simply relaxing at the campsite and drinking in the peaceful air.
